ECTs causing concern

What do I do if my ECT is not making satisfactory progress?

It is important to identify and act on concerns as early as possible during the induction period. Regardless of when the concerns are raised contact the ESP ECT Team on [email protected].

If the ECTs progress is deemed to be of concern during induction we will advise on the necessary steps required to provide additional support to the teacher in order to secure a satisfactory completion of induction.

Where the ECT is judged to have not completed the induction period satisfactorily towards the end of induction the school must compile a full set of evidence to support their judgements. Our AB partner the Arthur Terry TSH will then decide on the best course of action. This may include granting an extension to the induction period, upholding the judgement and failing the ECT or overturning the judgement.

The AB ultimately makes the final judgement on the ECT's performance against the Teachers' Standards and makes the final recommendation to the Teacher Regulation Agency (TRA).

What happens if I have concerns during my induction?

In the first instance talk the issue through with your ECT Mentor and/or Induction Tutor. If you feel that you cannot talk to these or the Headteacher then please contact the ESP ECT Team via email to [email protected]. The relationship with your Mentor and Induction Tutor should be strong and you should feel able to discuss any concerns you have with them. Whatever action you take, do so quickly before any problem escalates.
